There is a lot of information about phonics online but what is useful When you start teaching your child to
read with phonics one place to start is phonics online. There is a lot of
information about phonics online, ranging from
free games to free
worksheets. But to really get your child
I use a Montessori based phonics program and them for a break I get the kid to play a few phonics games or I print out a phonics worksheet and me and the kid go through it together. Really the free phonics online material is quite good but it is not a structured program. If your children are really into computers you can buy a online phonics program and there are some really good programs online. But if your children are too young or you are like me and have more trouble getting your kids off the computer. Then an offline program or book is what you should be looking at.

As I mentioned before I like the Montessori program as it is a structured program and it uses sandpaper letters which help the kid to start writing as well as helping to plant the words and phonic sounds on your child’s mind. I don’t know the best age for your child to start a online phonics program as most kids like the computer but they can’t really use it until they are well into primary school. If your children are still at kindergarten I don’t think a phonics online program is for you. It would be better to stick to the Montessori program. For more information about a Montessori program and some other phonics programs see our teach reading page.
