The books I like are the scholastic phonics books.They are a good size and the stories are very easy for children to understand and they use a lot of repetition. There are a number of different ways to teach your child to read and that depends on you and your time. If you like the one to one approach then I recommend the Montessori way of teaching reading. With this method you decide what to teach and you guide your child through the lessons.

The phonics materials you need for the Montessori way are very simple as you just need sandpaper letters and you make up the words. This is a very good approach if you are helping your child with homework. You just use the words from the schoolbook. For homeschooling I combined the Montessori way with the scholastic phonics books and this was a very effective combination. If
