Dog Trainer

The Dog Trainer in your home is usually you but sometimes you need to get a professional in when you are at your wit’s end.

As a rule the professional trainer will train you to train your dog because repetition is what sets the new behavior in your dog. And the way to repeat the action is for you to carry on after the trainer has shown you what to do.

That is slightly more difficult. Ask and you shall receive. Ask the vet or ask at your pet shop. They might nave an information board on a wall covered in ads from local people who have something to do with pets.

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers at www.apdt.com they should know if there are any trainers in your area. Also if you want to become a trainer that is a good place to start. If you are worried about how experienced your trainer is ask if he is a Certified Trainer. The Certification Council for Pet Dog trainers can be found at www.ccpdt.org and they have a training exam you have to pass as well as experience before you are certified. 

Most trainers are dog lovers or they wont last long in the industry. Anyway before you enroll with a trainer check them and see them in action. If you are going to join an obedience club for agility training, go to a free class and see what they are like. Dog training is a personal thing, it is between you and your dog, the trainer is only there as a guide to put you on the right track.
