Teaching Your Children To Read Try Montessori Reading and Writing

"What You Need To Know To Survive The Future"

                                                                                                                            open court phonics

For a really good phonics beginner program try Open Court Phonics.

Since it became popular at the beginning of the new millennium Open Court Phonics has helped turn the tide to increase reading scores in disadvantaged schools. For some reason Open Court Phonics has become

quite established in schools in lower income areas where English is usually a second language.

This could be because Open Court Phonics is offered free to schools. But it could also possible be due to the fact that it is a phonics program and not a whole language system. And it is very simple and very effective in the way it drills the phonics into the child’s mind.

Also how successful a program is usually depends on the school culture not on the program.

Open Court Phonics takes the guesswork out of teaching as the teacher just follows the program. It might sound like a boring way to teach but it works. I believe if it isn’t broke why fix it so just teach the program and see what happens. The students should be tested at regular intervals so you know if your teaching is effective.

As has been said many times before 'a picture tells a thousand words' and these free videos do just that. They are easier to understand as you can see how to make sandpaper letters then how to teach using them.

I like most phonics programs but the ones designed for the classroom might not be so effective when teaching at home. I like the Montessori method of teaching reading and writing as she was making waves in the field of education at the beginning of the 20th century. So her teaching method has stood the test of time, and is very suited for homeschooling. I think this Phonics Program is very good as it follows the Montessori way.
