Homeschooling teens is a lot easier than you think

Teens can do things themselves so when homeschooling teens you are more a supervisor than a teacher. Teens can find out things for

themselves and if they are interested in the subject they can amuse themselves for hours.

One thing I found I had to do when homeschooling my teens was to instill in them not to give up. Like when doing math my daughter used to jump up and down and declare she couldn’t do it. So I had to point her in the right direction so she could find out how or I would show her how.

To Homeschooling Parents And Parents of Children who are having Problems Learning to Read

Have A look At Three Free Videos About How to Teach Your Child To Read

Video 1: Introduction To Montessori Reading.

Video 2: How To Make Sandpaper Letters.

Video 3: How To Teach Reading Using Sandpaper Letters

As has been said many times before 'a picture tells a thousand words' and these free videos do just that. They are easier to understand as you can see how to make sandpaper letters then how to teach using them.

Until she learnt to look things up herself and not give up I had problems, because she would sit there and do nothing. Once she got past the can’t do it stage and started trying to find out why she couldn’t do it, then things started looking up.

And after this self directed learning became a habit I didn’t really have to do too much.

Before I started on homeschooling a teen I had completed some online distance education courses actually, about education So I knew how I had to arrange my life to get the papers finished. So I showed my daughter how I had arranged my life and that made a big difference in how she attacked each subject.

When homeschooling a teen you realize how much they do not know about organizing their work area and life, so you have to suggest things they should try. And if they do and see things are better then they should continue trying new ways of doing things.

Also I do recommend you have a goal of a diploma that they should try and pass and this way it gives them some incentive to carry on. For more information about homeschooling a teen and other homeschooling products see our Homeschooling Page
